You need two devices: one (with headphones) for the guide, and another to record yourself.
If you are recording yourself with a smartphone or tablet, go to Settings, and set the audio and video to high quality.
iPhones and iPads have "voice memo": in Settings, change it from "compressed" to "lossless".
Androids have "voice recorder": set this to "high quality".
For videos, you can change the setting on "camera" to the highest quality. This will make your files very big. Once you have sent them and know they have arrived, delete them from your device, or you'll run out of memory very quickly.
If you have a good-quality camera,
it's likely this will also take good video.
Use a tripod if you've got one,
or prop the camera on something solid.
Please make your pictures landscape, not portrait.
PLEASE MAKE TWO RECORDINGS
a) for sound
Use headphones to listen to the accompaniment, and watch the guide video.
Turn the sound on your headphones really loud, to make it easier to sing out.
Uncover one ear, so you can hear yourself
– this helps tuning.
Record your voice either just for sound, or as a video, whatever is easier. Don't worry how it looks. Avoid tapping the microphone or rustling your music.
b) for vision
Find a good background - outdoors if you like - check you are well-lit (not silhouetted against the light), discard your headphones, get your best props and costumes, turn the music on loud, and video yourself giving a performance. Don't worry if the singing is inaccurate, the sound won't be used.
